New Developments at Dr. Rose Private Hospital

2025. September 8.

Dr. Rose Private Hospital has entered a new chapter with a major expansion, adding thousands of square metres, new operating theatres, and 22 state-of-the-art patient rooms. But it’s not just about more space – the hospital is also introducing a new operational model, expanded medical expertise, enhanced patient safety, and a focus on improving the overall patient experience.

Why the expansion was needed

In the 18 years since it opened, Dr. Rose has seen steady growth in both patient numbers and surgical procedures. This rising demand made it essential to expand facilities and increase capacity. As CEO Dr. Kornél Papik explained: “The creation of new units is not only about expanding capacity – it also takes the standard of care, patient safety, and medical innovation to the next level.”

The inpatient department has been enlarged with a new 1,500 m² floor housing two operating theatres and 22 patient rooms. In total, the hospital now covers 2,800 m² with four operating theatres and 46 rooms, all dedicated to high-quality inpatient care. The new section will mainly accommodate orthopaedic surgery but is also suitable for gynaecological, urological, ENT, plastic, and other surgical procedures.

Future-focused healthcare

Beyond new facilities, the hospital has also invested in optimising patient pathways, digitalising logistics, and improving professional knowledge-sharing, all to ensure safer and more efficient operations. “Today, it’s not only about fast treatment and professional excellence but also the environment and the patient’s overall experience of recovery. Every square metre of this expansion reflects that approach,” added Dr. Papik.

Orthopaedic surgery at a higher level

The two new modular operating theatres were designed with both patient safety and staff efficiency in mind. Their flexible layout allows for smooth adaptation to different surgical needs. Orthopaedics in particular demands the most advanced surgical environment, given the complexity and rising number of procedures. According to the hospital’s Medical Director, Professor Dr. László Hangody, orthopaedics is one of the fastest-developing fields of medicine. With 15 orthopaedic surgeons on staff – comparable to a county-level orthopaedic centre – the new operating rooms and additional inpatient capacity directly support this medical specialisation.

“We are working with new instruments and implants, and innovations are being introduced every month. These allow us not only to deliver the highest quality care but also to perform operations in the shortest possible time – which is critical for successful rehabilitation,” Professor Hangody explained.

Technology from surgical lights to mobile X-ray

The new operating units are equipped with the latest technology to ensure world-class care. For example, HyLED X9 LED surgical lights provide outstanding illumination without shadows, while their integrated HD camera system enables documentation, training, and telemedicine broadcasting.

The theatres are also fitted with mobile X-ray machines, allowing immediate imaging during surgery to check results on the spot. Carefully designed spaces minimise unnecessary movement within sterile areas, helping maintain a safe surgical environment.

Enhanced post-operative monitoring

The expansion also includes a dedicated monitoring unit for patients who are older, have underlying health conditions, or undergo major surgery. Equipped with ventilators, monitors, infusion pumps, and resuscitation equipment, this area ensures the highest level of post-operative safety.

“Patient safety for us is not a goal but a core value. A key priority in designing this unit was to minimise the need for patient movement – this is not only more comfortable but also significantly reduces the risk of infection,” noted Professor Hangody.

The nurse-to-patient ratio in the post-operative unit is 1:4 or 1:5, much higher than typical hospital practice.

Sterilisation and laundry on site

The expansion also included a fully independent sterilisation unit and in-house laundry. High-tech equipment from Getinge, including autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, automated washing systems, and hydrogen peroxide sterilisers, ensures the complete sterility of instruments and materials.

By running its own laundry, the hospital can respond more quickly to patient needs and maintain stricter hygiene standards. This also enhances patient comfort, as freshly laundered in-house textiles have become part of the hospital’s identity.

Comfort taken seriously

The goal of the development was to create an environment where technology, functionality, and aesthetics all work together – a place where recovery begins the moment patients arrive. Many rooms also offer views of the Danube, Chain Bridge, Buda Castle, and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, making recovery more pleasant.

Interior designers aimed to move away from the sterile, impersonal feel often associated with hospitals. Instead, patient rooms feature six different colour schemes that harmonise with the riverside panorama, while the walls are decorated with works by contemporary Hungarian painters, adding to the healing atmosphere.

Patient comfort has also been prioritised with advanced Evario beds that can be adjusted into multiple positions, equipped with under-bed lighting, built-in safety sensors, and easy-access controls. Height adjustment by foot pedal, discreet night lighting, hypoallergenic mattresses, and smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces all contribute to both safety and convenience. Split side rails improve security without creating a sense of confinement.

Knowledge-sharing and live surgery broadcasts

Part of Dr. Rose’s mission is to advance medical knowledge and support the professional community. The new operating theatres are equipped with camera systems that allow live broadcasts of surgeries for educational purposes. This provides a valuable opportunity for young specialists to follow cutting-edge surgical techniques in real time.

To celebrate our expansion, we are giving a complimentary Dr. Rose gift voucher with every surgery, redeemable for any of our services. Opening promotion: Up to 150,000 HUF gift voucher with your surgery. More information at this link
