Traumatology at Dr. Rose – An Interview with Prof. Dr. László Hangody

2026. March 24.

An accident at home, at work or during your free time doesn’t just bring physical injury – it often comes with uncertainty, long waiting times, and unpredictable care. At the Traumatology Department of Dr. Rose Private Hospital, patients receive fast, structured, and comprehensive treatment, from specialist consultation and diagnostic tests through to surgery if needed. We spoke with Prof. Dr. László Hangody, the hospital’s Medical Director for Orthopaedics and Traumatology, about the professional background behind this service.

Orthopaedic surgery was introduced at Dr. Rose over ten years ago. How do you look back on its development? How has this field evolved since then?

In the early days, treatment focused on a small number of arthroscopic procedures. Over the years, we developed gradually and organically, building what is now a comprehensive orthopaedic centre covering a wide spectrum of care. We first introduced modern arthroscopic techniques, followed by joint replacement procedures, and later revision surgeries, which require a high level of interdisciplinary collaboration and intensive care support. Today, we have a team where orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists and nursing staff work closely together, following a shared approach and unified professional guidelines. This kind of steady, consistent development is quite rare and extremely valuable.

What sets the Dr. Rose Orthopaedic Centre apart from a traditional orthopaedic department?

At Dr. Rose, the entire musculoskeletal treatment process is organised as a single, coherent patient pathway. We use advanced diagnostic tools, offer personalised surgical solutions, and provide full post-operative care, including intensive care support, physiotherapy and rehabilitation. I would also like to highlight the importance of advanced cartilage repair procedures, which are not covered by the public healthcare system but are available here. For many patients, particularly younger ones, these treatments can significantly improve their quality of life.

One of the centre’s key new developments is the introduction of traumatology. What led to this decision?

Primarily, the fact that all the necessary conditions are now in place. For a long time, we proceeded cautiously, as traumatology can only function well with the right number of experienced specialists, a secure infrastructure, immediate access to diagnostics, and proper intensive and post-operative care. Now that all of this is available, we decided to launch our traumatology service, which operates on weekdays between 8 am and 8 pm.

What types of injuries do you treat?

We provide comprehensive care for limb injuries, including fractures, dislocations, ligament and tendon injuries, as well as sports-related trauma. We offer the latest techniques in bone fixation, ligament and tendon reconstruction, and reconstructive procedures. Injuries occurring around previously implanted hip, knee or shoulder prostheses – known as periprosthetic fractures – require highly specialised surgical and intensive care environments, as well as extensive experience in joint replacement. Our hospital’s technical capabilities and expert team allow us to treat these complex cases as well. These injuries require fast, high-quality intervention, and there is significant demand for this level of care in the private sector.

It is important to note that we do not treat polytrauma cases involving multiple, life-threatening injuries or septic conditions.

What gap does this type of private traumatology fill?

In many cases, the biggest burden for patients is not the injury itself, but the circumstances of care: waiting times, uncertainty, and lack of predictability. At Dr. Rose, patients experience something different. They arrive, receive prompt treatment, are clearly informed about the next steps, and if surgery is needed, it can be carried out without delay. This results in a very different patient experience and, in many cases, faster recovery.

Where do you see the greatest added value of this centre?

The greatest strength lies in combining a high level of professional expertise with a genuinely patient-centred approach. This combination is quite rare. Our colleagues are highly experienced specialists, but just as importantly, they consider each patient’s personal situation and needs when making decisions. Dr. Rose is an environment where clinical excellence meets attentive, human-focused care.

Injuries often occur unexpectedly, which makes it especially important for care to be predictable and well-organised. One of the key advantages of a structured trauma service is that patients enter a clearly defined process, where every step has its place and timing, and each stage is designed to support faster recovery.
