The deep plane face and neck lift is one of the most refined techniques in facial rejuvenation surgery. Instead of focusing solely on superficial correction, this method works by releasing and repositioning the deeper structural layers while removing excess skin. As a result, the contours of the face and neck can be restored in a more harmonious, natural way, with longer-lasting outcomes compared to traditional facelift procedures.
Deep plane facelift
When Is a Deep Plane Facelift Recommended?
A deep plane facelift is ideal for patients who show more significant signs of aging: lax facial skin, deeper folds, or a less defined neck contour. While conventional facelift techniques can also achieve impressive and durable results, the deep plane approach is especially suitable for those seeking a more natural facial expression and long-term stability - particularly when non-surgical treatments are no longer sufficient.
What Happens During the First Consultation?
During your first consultation, our plastic surgeon will thoroughly discuss your goals and expectations regarding the deep plane face and neck lift. After a detailed examination, you will receive an explanation of the available surgical options, the expected results, and the potential risks of the procedure.
We aim to ensure that every patient can make an informed, calm, and confident decision. The consultation also allows us to create a personalised treatment plan that takes into account skin quality, tissue structure, age, and your individual aesthetic preferences.
Preparing for Surgery
As with any plastic surgery, a full medical evaluation is required before a deep plane face and neck lift. This includes laboratory tests and, when needed, additional assessments such as ECG or X-ray. In our private hospital, all examinations are available in one place at one time, eliminating the need to travel between institutions - saving you time and energy.
Support in the Preoperative Preparation
During the consultations, we provide personalised lifestyle advice to help you prepare for surgery and support a smoother, faster recovery. We offer practical guidance on optimal nutrition and daily habits, ensuring you arrive for your procedure with confidence and experience the most comfortable healing process possible.
Preparation can begin right away: temporarily avoiding smoking significantly improves skin condition and accelerates healing. We recommend a diet rich in vitamins and trace elements, especially vitamin C, selenium, and zinc. Ginkgo biloba and other herbs that affect blood clotting should be avoided, as they may slow the recovery process.
What Happens During the surgery?
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 4–6 hours. Incisions are placed along the hairline at the temples, around and behind the ears, and beneath the chin. After partial elevation of the skin, the deeper connective tissue layer (SMAS) and the platysma muscle are released and lifted. If necessary, excess fat in the neck area is removed, and platysmaplasty (tightening of the platysma muscle) may be performed. Excess skin is then removed, incisions are closed with fine plastic sutures, and drainage may be placed to remove blood or serous fluid. At the end of the procedure, an elastic bandage or compression dressing is applied for stability and support.
Recovery and Healing
Patients typically spend one night in our hospital after surgery. Drains are removed within the first 1-2 days, and sutures are taken out between days 7–14. Swelling and mild bruising may persist for several weeks, while the final results are usually visible after 3-6 months.
During recovery, increased caution is essential: avoid sports, strenuous physical activity, sauna use, tanning beds, and direct sun exposure for 6 weeks. Makeup can generally be applied from the second week, depending on skin condition. You are encouraged to rest as much as possible, minimise facial expressions, and drink plenty of fluids to support skin hydration.
What Are the Potential Risks of a Deep Plane Facelift?
Although the deep plane facelift is a safe and well-established procedure, complications may occur - as with any surgery. To minimise risks, our surgeons will thoroughly review your medications and lifestyle habits during consultation.
Potential complications include postoperative bleeding, infection, and wound-healing issues. Healing problems are more common in the presence of smoking, diabetes, or circulation disorders; in such cases, scars may heal more slowly or appear wider, and keloids (excessive scar formation) may develop. Rarely, nerve injury, asymmetry, skin necrosis, fluid accumulation, swelling, or temporary discoloration may occur. Over time, natural skin aging will continue, and further procedures may eventually be desired.
