Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most common plastic surgeries, in which a silicone breast implant is used to increase the size of the breasts or make up for lost volume which can develop after pregnancy and breastfeeding, following a disease affecting breast tissue or as a feature of age. Nowadays, breast augmentation has become accepted by society. The reason for this lies not only in open communication, but also in the fact that the motto of plastic surgeons for years has been ’natural beauty’, so breast augmentation is no longer synonymous with huge, sometimes grotesque breasts, and most often it is not noticeable that an implant increases breast size.

When is breast augmentation warranted?

Beautiful, full female breasts are one of the most important symbols of femininity, sexuality and youthfulness for women. Therefore, if the breasts sag a little, lose their shape, are asymmetrical or perhaps nature has blessed a woman with small breasts and she longs for a bigger, more feminine bust, for many women this causes problems of low self-esteem, which over time can negatively affect their sex life or even lead to depression. However, this situation can be easily avoided with breast implants, the size and shape of which will be discussed with you by our plastic surgeon during a personal consultation. Women who have undergone breast augmentation can once again be proud of the most beautiful symbol of their femininity, their self-confidence increases, which, based on the feedback from our clientele, has a positive impact on all areas of their lives.

What happens at the first consultation?

During the consultation, our plastic surgeon will assess the current condition of your breasts and, based on their experience and references - and your needs - will suggest the best possible solution, as well as show you the expected outcome after the operation. In our private hospital we currently use Mentor and Motiva brand implants, which are FDA- and CE-certified products from leading American manufacturers. Mentor implants have a lifetime warranty, while Motiva products are made with a patented nanotechnology SilkSurface® exterior for even greater safety. The implants, in terms of shape, can be round or teardrop, have a textured surface and provide the highest safety and best quality.

Preparing for surgery

As with all surgeries, before breast augmentation you will need to have a full examination, which includes laboratory tests, ECG and x-rays if necessary, and ultrasound and mammography. In our private hospital, we perform all the necessary tests at the same time to save you time and make your preparations for surgery more convenient. You will then receive some lifestyle tips to help you prepare for breast augmentation surgery and to speed up your recovery. These include quitting smoking - at least temporarily - as nicotine slows the healing processes, consuming adequate amounts of fluids, vitamins and trace elements (vitamin C, selenium, zinc) and avoiding the use of aspirin, ginkgo biloba and other natural remedies, because these affect blood clotting.

What happens during surgery?

Breast augmentation surgery is always performed under anesthesia by our plastic surgeon. During the operation, the smallest possible incision is made under the breast and through this the implant selected during the consultation is placed under the mammary gland or chest muscle, depending on the structure of the breast and the corresponding protocol. Only absorbable sutures are used throughout, sparing you the inconvenience of later suture removal. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour.

Recovery, regeneration

After breast augmentation you will need to spend one night in our private hospital to rest in comfortable and pleasant surroundings for the first night after surgery. The next morning our plastic surgeon examines the surgical area, which should not be exposed to water for one week. A special bra, which we will provide for you, must be worn for 4-6 weeks after surgery. All strenuous physical activity should be avoided for two weeks after the operation, then you can gradually resume your daily routine, and after the third week you can take light exercise. The solarium, sunbathing and the sauna should all be avoided for two months after the procedure. Our plastic surgeon will call you back for a postoperative examination at specified intervals. The healing time of the external scars is approximately 6 months, while internal scars heal completely within 2 years. The use of scar treatment creams is recommended to promote scar healing. Although we try to filter out all risk factors during preoperative breast augmentation examinations, unforeseen complications may occur. At the first consultation your plastic surgeon will inform you about these and how to avoid them.
After breast augmentation, a thin scar line remains on the skin in a barely visible place that is permanent but gradually fades over time. The breasts gain their final shape after six months to a year.
