Urology

Urology deals with the health, congenital and acquired disorders and diseases of the urinary tract (kidney, renal pelvis, ureter, bladder, urethra) and the male genitalia, as well as inflammatory and tumorous lesions of these organs.

We pay great attention to the prevention of diseases, especially the early diagnosis (inflammatory, malignant and benign tumors) and treatment of various prostate abnormalities. This provides opportunities for timely, effective treatment and successful recovery.

When should you see a urologist?

  • If your urination habits have changed
  • Difficulty urinating, intermittent discharge, or inability to empty your bladder
  • If the arc and flow of urination have changed
  • If urinary incontinence is developing
  • In cases of spasmodic lower back pain (kidney or ureteral stones)
  • Feeling discomfort or pain around your lower abdomen or perineum
  • If your urine becomes bloody or cloudy, whether it is painful or not
  • If you have pain, a rash or other skin symptoms on your genitals
  • If there is a tactile or visible abnormality in the genitals
  • If you notice or can feel any abnormality while bathing or during self-examination
  • In cases of sexual dysfunction

For men, it is also recommended to consult a urologist for the following symptoms:

  • Testicular complaints, pain
  • Enlarged testicle
  • Erectile problems or premature ejaculation
  • For urological screening over 40 years of age

In women, it is also recommended to consult a urologist for the following symptoms

  • In case of recurrent gynecological complaints
  • In cases of detected urological disease, we provide a consultation opportunity

What happens during a urological examination?

If any of the above discrepancies are detected, the urologist will begin an examination. We first ask the patient about their previous illnesses, medications, present complaints and symptoms. This is followed by a physical examination and, if necessary, further examinations by a specialist, such as a uroflow test to measure the speed and amount of urine voided during urination, or for example when performing a urological ultrasound examination we can review the kidneys, adrenal glands, their environment, the initial stage of the renal duct, the bladder and its environment, the renal duct near the bladder, and the prostate and seminal vesicles, hereby detecting any structural abnormalities. Using ultrasound probes operating at other frequencies, we can get an idea of the structure of the genitals (penis, testis, epididymis). These are not painful procedures.

If no sufficiently accurate diagnosis is forthcoming, we recommend additional examinations, such as CT, MRI, isotope diagnostics, or targeted histological examinations, which are organized for the patient during their appointment.

Special mention should be made of the health challenge of our time: diseases of the prostate. Inflammatory (bacterial, abacterial) and cancerous (benign and malignant) prostate diseases can be cured, therefore we pay special attention to their timely screening, detection and treatment. The laboratory background (possibility of blood PSA and urine tests) and diagnostic knowledge of associate medical specialists help our work.

Inflammatory diseases of the kidneys, pelvis and genitals (bacteria, viruses or other pathogens) are detected and treated during the urological examination.

The urological consultation is also concerned with the examination, treatment and referral for possible surgery of urinary incontinence problems.

Finding, curing, treating and caring for chronic diseases is urology’s special challenge.

Intimate relationship problems can also have a urological component that we are willing to help with.

How should I arrive for the examination?

It is recommended that you arrive for your morning examination on an empty stomach and with a full bladder so that laboratory tests and any ultrasound examination can be performed at the same time. If possible, please also bring your earlier medical records, outpatient findings, CT or MR test material, and a list of the medications you are currently taking.

Urological surgeries

Most urological problems are treatable with medication, but in some cases a surgical solution is the course of action. Today, a significant proportion of urological surgeries can already be performed with an endoscope, that is, using a fiber-optic device inserted through the urethra or the skin - even tumor surgeries that once seemed unthinkable without exploratory abdominal surgery. Endoscopic surgeries result in much less stress for the patient, with faster healing and fewer complications. We only resort to exploratory surgery if the disease cannot be safely cured by other means.

Our premium inpatient department has 3 operating rooms and 19 patient rooms with 25 beds to meet all our patients’ needs. The highest professional standards together with our exclusive environment help you heal in safety and tranquility.

Surgical operations are always preceded by a detailed and careful examination. The goal of the examination is to get the patient into the operating room in the best possible condition, so that the healing is faster and the number of complications is significantly reduced.
