Graduated at the Faculty of Medicine of Semmelweis University with a distinction of summa cum laude in 1979. Qualified as a specialist of internal medicine, gastroenterology and insurance medicine since 1984, 1991, and 2004, respectively. Worked at the 1st Department of Internal Medicine between 1979 and 1986, and at the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine from 1986 until October of 2020. Associate professor and deputy head of the department from 2016 to 2019. Volunteering at the 1st Department of Surgery and Interventional Gastroenterology since October 2020.
Further training at Freiburg in 1985. Work at the Department of Biochemistry of the Mount Sinai Hospial in New York between 1987 and 1989. Spent a month at the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine at the Technical University of Munich in 1992.
Obtained a PhD in 1991; habilitated at the Semmelweis University in 2001. Participated in gradual and postgradual education. Author of several textbooks and scientific publications in Hungarian and English languages. Delivered numerous scientific and popular science lectures.
Main areas of interest in scientific and clinical activity include hepatic diseases such as chronic viral hepatitises, fatty liver disease, alcoholic hepatopathy, autoimmune hepatic diseases, drug induced hepatic injuries, hepatic disorders of unknown origin, and liver transplantation. Member of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), member of the Board of the Hungarian Association for the Study of the Liver, senior editor of Orvosi Hetilap. Participating in postgradual examinations of gastroenterology since November 2016. Deputy Chair and then Chairperson of the Board coordinating professional training in gastroenterology at the Semmelweis University since December 2016 and January 2019, respectively.
Scientific appreciations: Madzsar József Medal, Magyar Imre Award and Recognition of Excellency from the Hungarian Society of Gastroenterology, Dr. Halász Géza Commemorative Medal, Dávid Károly Award, Markusovszky Lajos Award and Commemorative Medal from the Orvosi Hetilap.
