Combined breast augmentation

The size and shape of the breasts are largely genetically determined. Childbirth, breastfeeding, extreme weight loss or weight gain can all have a detrimental effect even on previously beautiful, full-bodied shapes. In the case of most women, over time the breast glands decrease in size and as a result the breasts may sag, losing their firmness and fullness. The essence of combined breast augmentation is to replace the missing volume with an implant and to eliminate the sagging of drooping breasts. During combined breast augmentation, the plastic surgeon inserts an implant and lifts the breasts by excising a portion of the excess skin. After removing the excess skin and replenishing the required volume, the breasts become full and shapely again.

When is combined breast augmentation warranted?

Beautiful, full female breasts are one of the most important symbols of femininity and sexuality as well as youthfulness for women. Hence, if the breasts sag, lose their shape or are asymmetrical, it causes mental problems and self-esteem disorders for many women, which over time can lead to a deteriorating sex life or even depression. This situation can be easily avoided by removing excess skin and inserting breast implants, the size and type of which will be discussed with you by our plastic surgeon during the personal consultation. Women who have undergone combined breast augmentation can once again be proud of the most beautiful symbol of their femininity, their self-confidence increases, which, based on the feedback from our clientele, has a positive impact on all areas of their lives.

What happens during the first consultation?

Our plastic surgeon will examine you during your personal consultation and, based on their references, will show you what your expected best outcome will be if you decide to have surgery. He will show you the different implants, select the one that works best for you, explain the different surgical techniques and show you where the surgical scars will be located after surgery. The plastic surgeon will consider your individual attributes, breast structure, and your ideas when choosing the size and type of implant. In our private hospital we currently use Mentor and Motiva implant brands, which are FDA- and CE-certified products from leading American manufacturers. Mentor implants have a lifetime warranty, while Motiva products are made with a patented nanotechnology SilkSurface® exterior for even greater safety. The implants - in terms of shape - can be round or oval (teardrop), with textured surfaces, and provide maximum safety and the best quality.

Preparing for surgery

As with all surgeries, before combined breast augmentation surgery, you will need to undergo a full examination, which includes laboratory tests, ECG and x-rays if necessary, and ultrasound and mammography. In our private hospital, we perform all the necessary tests at the same time to save you time and make your preparations for surgery more convenient. You will then receive some lifestyle tips to help you prepare for combined breast augmentation surgery and to speed up your recovery. These include quitting smoking - at least temporarily - as nicotine slows the healing processes, consuming adequate amounts of fluids, vitamins and trace elements (vitamin C, selenium, zinc) and avoiding the use of aspirin, ginkgo biloba and other natural remedies, because these affect blood clotting.

What happens during surgery?

During combined breast augmentation performed under anesthesia, our surgeon makes an incision around the areola, then downwards in a vertical direction and perpendicular to it in the so-called ’inverted T-line’. He then inserts the appropriately shaped and sized implant under the mammary gland or pectoral muscle. Excess adipose tissue and skin are removed, and if necessary, part of the mammary gland, to create the ideal shape. The nipples are then fixed in their appropriate anatomical position. Only absorbable sutures are used throughout, sparing you the inconvenience of later suture removal. The whole procedure takes 2-3 hours.

Recovery, regeneration

After combined breast augmentation you will need to spend one night in our private hospital, where you can relax in comfortable and pleasant surroundings. The surgical site should not be exposed to water for one week. You will need to wear a special bra - which we provide for you - for eight weeks. During the first two weeks it is important to avoid all strenuous physical activity, then you can gradually resume your previous rhythm of life, and after three weeks light exercise is allowed. Neither the solarium, sunbathing, nor the sauna are advised for two months. Our plastic surgeon will call you back for a postoperative examination at specified intervals. The visible scars heal after approximately 6 months, those under the skin within about 2 years. Although we try to filter out all risk factors during preoperative breast augmentation examinations, unforeseen complications may occur. At the first consultation your plastic surgeon will inform you about these and how to avoid them.

After combined breast augmentation a thin scar line remains on the skin in a barely visible place that is permanent but gradually fades over time. The breasts gain their final shape after 6 months to a year.
