Integrated parent-infant/toddler consultation
Our integrated parent-infant/toddler consultation is a preventive and intervention method for use during early childhood (0-3 years) to alleviate relationship difficulties arising from early emotional and behavioral control problems, thereby supporting a balanced parent-child relationship and harmonious development.
Parents often turn to professionals for help with problems that make everyday life difficult for babies, toddlers and families.
Regulatory disorders can occur in early infancy and may extend into early school age.
Parental complaints associated with regulatory disorders may include excessive crying; chronic restlessness; difficulties with sleep, breastfeeding, diet and nutrition; strong defiance; anger attacks; intense separation anxiety; sibling jealousy; constipation problems. Before starting the consultation, a medical examination is necessary to exclude any biological or medical background to the problem.
In many cases parents are left alone with their questions and struggles and it is often difficult for them to determine whether a situation they find difficult is indeed a problem or the result of a natural process of development. How much do the innate characteristics of the baby play a role in the development of a particular situation? How well does the child's basic nature fit with that of their parents? Does the intensity and duration of the problem exceed the limits of ‘normal’ development?
The aim of the parent-infant consultation is specifically to assist in the event of such difficulties.
Solving such complex problems - via early detection, prevention and targeted interaction with the relationship - requires interdisciplinary and specific professional competence. The method is integrated, interaction-focused and based on an attachment theory and systems theory approach.
During the consultations the consultant, in thinking ‘together’ with the parents, aims to identify and resolve the root of the problem. Often video feedback techniques are used. The child is always present at the consultations.
The parent-infant/toddler consultation takes into account the uniqueness and individuality of the developing parent-child relationship.
