Since the first mammographic examinations were performed in the 1930s, the field of diagnostics has evolved rapidly. While the importance of prevention and screening is being discussed more openly and more and more, many people are still afraid to undergo the test. Thanks to recent developments in equipment, tests are now much faster, more accurate and considerably more convenient than in previous years. The test can detect benign and malignant lesions, and can give indirect signs of their presence. Based on a 2010 peer-reviewed position statement, Dr. Rose Private Hospital recommends mammography for people over 35 years of age.
