This method is used to investigate possible deviations of the thoracic organs - primarily the lungs, the heart, the great vessels, the ribs and the diaphragm. It can reveal pneumonia, lung cancer, tuberculosis, emphysema as well as heart diseases that cause pulmonary circulatory stagnation, pneumothorax, etc.
Evaluation is based on the shadow of the different tissues: the shadow of bones and calcareous tissues is the lightest, while the shadow of air is the darkest. Other tissues are visualized in different shades of grey. By repeating the screening after a couple of days, the course of the disease can be followed: it shows whether the patient’s condition is improving or deteriorating.
Dr. Rose Private Hospital recommends annual lung screening.
